Redditch heavyweight Simon Ibekwe, 7-0 with four knockouts, gets a 12-month sponsorship from MKM Bromsgrove ahead of his 11 December fight in Cardiff.
MKM Building Supplies in Bromsgrove is sponsoring Simon Ibekwe, the unbeaten heavyweight boxer from Redditch, for the next 12 months. The deal runs through a year in which he wants to fight for a British title.
The agreement covers at least four professional fights. The Buntsford Drive branch will also feature on Simon’s social media channels over the year as he posts his progress in the ring.
Who Simon Ibekwe is
Simon is 30 and has a professional record of 7-0, with four wins by knockout. He came to boxing late, starting at 21 and having his first amateur contest at 22. According to the branch he has since sparred with some of the best heavyweights in the division, and he is now ranked 16th in the UK and 118th in the world.
He has set the British title as his minimum target for the next 12 months. His next fight is on 11 December at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
He summed up his approach in one line: “You are what you do, not what you say you will do.”
“I’ve worked hard to get to this stage of my career and I’m grateful to have the support of MKM Bromsgrove behind me,” he said. “Having a local business back what you’re doing means a lot and gives you extra motivation to keep pushing forward. My goal is to keep climbing the rankings, challenge for titles next year and show exactly what I’m capable of.”
Why the branch is backing him
Josh Lune, branch director at MKM Bromsgrove, said: “Simon is a great lad with a brilliant attitude, and that’s something we really value at MKM. He’s worked hard to get to where he is and it’s exciting to see someone local making a name for themselves in the sport.
“We’re always keen to support people and organisations in our area, whether that’s local sports clubs, community groups or individuals chasing their goals. Simon’s got a big year ahead of him and we’re proud to be backing him on that journey.”
Each MKM branch is run by its own branch director, which the company says lets the Bromsgrove team choose which local charities, sports clubs and community groups it supports.
