Bromsgrove runs no Monday collections at all, so bank holidays change nothing. Garden waste is £60 plus a £22 set-up fee, bulky items start at £13.
Most councils shunt every round a day later after a bank holiday. Bromsgrove does not, and the reason is buried in an FAQ page rather than stated anywhere obvious.
Bromsgrove District Council runs no household collections on a Monday at all. Its waste FAQ puts it in one line: “Monday Bank Holidays: we do not have any scheduled household collections on a Monday.” So the August bank holiday, the two in May and the Easter Monday change nothing. There is no Monday round to move.
That is checkable. The council’s own garden waste street list names a collection day for 1,337 streets across the district. Not one of them is a Monday. The split is Tuesday 356 streets, Thursday 354, Friday 318 and Wednesday 309. The missed-bin page says the same thing from the other end: crews work “up to 5pm Tuesday to Thursday and 4pm Friday”.
Two more dates behave differently:
- Good Friday collections happen as normal. The crews work it.
- Christmas and New Year is the only real disruption. The council says it moves “only the collections that fall on Christmas Day or Boxing Day”, and advertises the replacement dates each December.
Right now: crews are starting at 6:30am
There is a live change this fortnight. From the week commencing 24 August 2026, with high temperatures forecast, waste crews are starting earlier to keep staff safe in the heat.
Collections may begin from 6:30am, so the council is asking people to put bins out the night before rather than on the morning. The normal rule is kerbside by 7am.

Two rules on that page catch people out. Bin liners must not be used in the brown bin, and that includes biodegradable ones: the composting run takes 14 weeks and even compostable liners do not break down in time. And the grey bin is not a catch-all. Soil, bricks and rubble, garden waste, gas cylinders, hot ash, batteries, TVs, tyres, scrap metal, fluorescent tubes and low-energy bulbs, mobile phones, cooking oil, paint, asbestos and chemicals are all refused.
Food waste still goes in the grey bin here. Bromsgrove has no separate food caddy yet. The council says it is “working towards implementing a food waste collection service during the 2026/27 financial year”, which means a fourth container is coming but is not here.
Where it all ends up is unusually specific for a council page. Grey bin waste goes to Severn Waste Services’ EnviRecover energy-from-waste plant at Hartlebury and is burnt for electricity. Brown bin waste goes to the Hill and Moor composting site near Pershore and comes back as a soil conditioner called Greengrow.
Find your own day
The council’s lookup takes a postcode, then an address: Check your grey/green bin collection day. A printed 2026 calendar can be requested from the same page. Garden waste dates are on a separate street-by-street list under Garden Waste Collection Dates 2026.
Garden waste: £60, plus £22 to start
The brown bin is a paid subscription and it is not cheap to join.
- £60 per bin for the year, plus a £22 one-off set-up charge.
- The 2026 season runs from the week commencing 23 February or 2 March 2026 and ends the week commencing 30 November or 7 December 2026, depending on which schedule your street is on.
- Collections are fortnightly. There is one bin size only, 240 litres. You can pay for as many bins as you want.
- Payment is by Direct Debit. No concessions and no part payments.
- Refunds only if you ask before your first collection.
One thing worth knowing if you are signing up now, in August. The service was temporarily suspended to new customers, so the council says a reduced price is being offered for the rest of the 2026 season, calculated from the date you join. It does not publish that figure. You have to ring 01527 881188 for it.

Note that bulky crews do work Mondays, even though the wheeled bin rounds do not.
Items must be outside by 8am, crews will not enter a house or garage, there are no refunds once booked, and anything not there on the day is not collected. Glass and mirrors have to be wrapped and labelled; carpet has to be cut into 6ft by 6ft pieces with the gripper rod removed.
Fridges and freezers are suspended. The council has stopped taking any cooling appliance on the bulky service “with immediate effect”, blaming a national shortage of treatment capacity. Its page goes further and says residents in Worcestershire can no longer take fridges and freezers to the recycling centres either.
That last claim is contradicted by the county. Worcestershire County Council’s own page for Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre still lists “Fridges and Freezers: Yes” in its accepted materials table. The two councils are live with opposite answers, so ring before you load the car. The bulky price list itself carries no fridge or freezer entry, which is consistent with the suspension.
Missed bin: you have 48 hours
The council will not return for a missed bin after 48 hours, and it will not come back at all if the reason was yours: wrong bin, out after 7am, not at the kerbside, too heavy, or the wrong waste inside. In those cases you wait for the next scheduled collection, normally a fortnight, and any extra waste is your problem to take to the tip.
Before reporting, the council asks you to check the waste collections service status page, because crews change routes, wagons fill up and tip off mid-round, and a garden waste lorry passing your house does not mean the grey one has been.
The tip is in Romsley, and three days need booking
Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre is not in Bromsgrove. It is at Quantry Lane, off Money Lane, Romsley, DY9 9UU, run by Worcestershire County Council.
- Opening hours: 8am to 5pm daily until 25 October 2026, then 8am to 4pm daily from 26 October to 28 March 2027. Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
- You must pre-book on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Turn up without a booking on those days and you will not get in. Slots are capped to stop queues spilling onto the road.
- Six pre-booked visits per household per 14 days is the current limit, and you cannot amend a booking once made.
- No pedestrian access. Bikes are fine and are treated like a car, including the booking requirement.
- A residents’ permit scheme operates on site, and trailers or commercial vehicles used privately need an e-permit.
