The district
Bromsgrove town is the centre and gives the district its name. Around it are Alvechurch, Barnt Green and the Lickey Hills to the north east, Wythall and Rubery on the Birmingham fringe, Catshill and Stoke Prior nearby, and the Hagley side to the west. Around 102,000 people live here, which is small enough that a single planning decision can be the biggest local story of the month, and that is usually exactly what it is.
What we report
Bromsgrove District Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the local watercourses, and company filings in The Gazette. Worcestershire County Council runs roads, schools and social care rather than the district, and we say which body a decision belongs to instead of sending you to the wrong one.
What happens in 2028
Bromsgrove District Council is due to be abolished on 1 April 2028 and replaced by a new North Worcestershire unitary authority formed with Redditch and Wyre Forest. Three districts of roughly equal size are being merged with no obvious centre among them, so decisions currently taken for Bromsgrove alone will be taken for a much larger area. We will report each stage from the published documents, and keep the practical pages on this site pointing at whoever is actually responsible.
