The council wants to refurbish the skateparks at Sanders Park and St Chad's Park, Rubery. Drop-ins on 4 and 8 September, survey closes midnight on the 14th.

Bromsgrove District Council is asking skatepark users what should be done to its two skateparks, and it wants answers by the middle of next month.

The consultation covers Sanders Park in Bromsgrove and St Chad’s Park in Rubery, about four miles north of the town centre. The council’s stated aim is to “refurbish the skate parks at Sanders Park and St Chad’s Park”.

There are three ways to be counted, and three dates:

  • Friday 4 September, 3pm to 5pm: drop-in event at Sanders Park skatepark
  • Tuesday 8 September, 3pm to 5pm: drop-in event at St Chad’s Park skatepark
  • Monday 14 September, midnight: the online survey closes

The council is inviting “people of all ages, including skateboarders, BMX riders, scooter users, inline skaters, families and, local residents” to respond. It also wants to hear from people who used the skateparks in the past, not only current users.

What the council has not said

The release announces no budget, no design and no timetable. It says responses “will help the Council better understand how the facilities are used and identify opportunities for future investment and improvements”.

That wording matters. This is a consultation that comes before money is committed, not one that follows a decision. The consultation page adds nothing further on cost or scope, and gives the same closing time of “23:59 on the 14th of September 2026”.

No figure is published, and we are not guessing at one. If a budget is set later, it will appear in the council’s own papers.

Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Leisure and Culture Councillor Shirley Webb said: “Our skateparks are important community facilities, they provide opportunities for people of all ages to be active, socialise, and learn new skills. We want to hear from as many users as possible to help us understand what improvements would make the biggest difference.”

The two sites

St Chad’s Park sits in the Rubery South ward, with entrances on Leach Heath Lane and New Road. The council’s own page for the park lists a good deal more than the ramps:

  • large open space
  • toddler and junior play area
  • skate park
  • multi use games area
  • outdoor gym
  • bowls pavilion and bowling green
  • football pitch with changing facilities

Sanders Park has had a better year on paper. In July the council announced that Sanders Park and Lickey End Recreation Ground had both been successful in the 2026 round of the Green Flag awards, out of more than 20 parks and play areas the council manages. Work also began in late July on an extension to the Sanders Park car park.

The skatepark is the part of both sites that has not had an announcement.

What it means for you

  • If you or your children use either skatepark, the survey is the only route that is open right now, and it shuts at midnight on Monday 14 September.
  • The drop-ins are the only chance to talk to council staff on the ramps themselves. They are short, two hours each, and both fall in the after-school slot.
  • Past users are explicitly in scope. If your child stopped going because the surface or the ramps put them off, that is the sort of answer the council says it is looking for.
  • Nothing is funded yet, so a response now is aimed at shaping a bid, not picking from a menu.
