Alvechurch are in the first round proper of the FA Cup. They beat Spalding United 4-0 in Tuesday night’s fourth qualifying round replay at Lye Meadow.

Their reward is a trip to Plymouth Argyle. The tie is at Home Park on Saturday 7 November, kick-off 3pm.

Updated 25 October: Plymouth Argyle confirmed the date and kick-off on 22 October. The club says “the fixture will be played on Saturday, 7 November at 3pm”. Neither club has published ticket details yet.

It is the fourth time the club has reached this stage, according to its own match report. Plymouth Argyle confirmed the tie on Monday night, after the draw put them against the winners of the replay.

How the replay went

The two sides drew 2-2 at Spalding on Saturday 17 October, when Alvechurch came back from two goals down. Our report of the first game has the detail.

Tuesday’s replay was one-sided. The club’s report on its website gives the goals:

  • 26 minutes: Newton drove in a low shot from just outside the box, his first goal for the club
  • 37 minutes: Osborne curled a free kick into the top corner
  • 49 minutes: Newton scored his second from the edge of the box, after another Osborne free kick was only half cleared
  • 57 minutes: Okafor ran on to a through ball and finished past the goalkeeper

Spalding had a penalty on 61 minutes. Evans, the Alvechurch goalkeeper, dived to his right to save it and kept a clean sheet.

The win is a big one on paper. Spalding play in the National League North, one division above Alvechurch, who are in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

Who Plymouth are

Plymouth Argyle are a Football League club. They enter the competition in this round, with the other League One and League Two sides and the 32 non-league clubs who came through qualifying.

Home Park is about 165 miles south-west of Alvechurch as the crow flies. Argyle’s own announcement notes that they lost 2-0 at Wycombe Wanderers in last season’s first round.

The money

The FA’s prize fund for 2026-27 pays, for the first round proper:
