Alvechurch are one win from the FA Cup first round after beating Cambridge City 2-1. They go to Spalding United on 17 October, with £9,375 for the winners.

Alvechurch are one game from the first round proper of the FA Cup. They won 2-1 at Cambridge City on Saturday, and Monday’s draw sends them to Spalding United in the fourth qualifying round.

The tie is on the weekend of Saturday 17 October. Spalding is in Lincolnshire, about 80 miles north-east of Alvechurch as the crow flies.

How Alvechurch got through

Cambridge City’s own match report gives the detail of Saturday’s game at Sawston, about seven miles south of Cambridge:

  • Sam Perry headed Alvechurch in front from a corner, ten minutes before half-time
  • Fletcher Toll equalised for City four minutes later
  • Miracle Okafor scored the winner from the penalty spot after 75 minutes, when Manny Ilesanmi was brought down
  • Alvechurch had two more goals ruled out for offside in the first half

The report puts the crowd at 912. It also concedes that City “appeared to be the better team on the day”.

The win came after a difficult week. The same report notes that Alvechurch lost 2-1 at home to Bourne Town in the FA Trophy the Saturday before, then drew 0-0 with Stourbridge in the league on the Tuesday.

Who Spalding are

Spalding needed two games to get here. They drew 1-1 at Bury Town on Saturday and won the replay 4-0 at home on Tuesday night, according to Bury Town’s own results list.

Bury Town describe Spalding as a National League North side. That is one division above Alvechurch, who play in the Southern League Premier Division Central.

The Southern League published the full draw on Monday. Bromsgrove Sporting are not in it: they lost 2-1 at Bury in the last round. Our results round-up for both clubs has the detail.

What is at stake

The FA’s prize fund for 2026-27 pays:

  • £9,375 to each club that wins in the fourth qualifying round
  • £3,125 to each club that loses

That is on top of the £5,625 Alvechurch earned for Saturday’s win. The winners go into the first round proper, the round where clubs from League One and League Two join the competition.

What it means for you

  • Keep Saturday 17 October free if you want to travel. We could not find a kick-off time or ticket prices from either club on Thursday. We will add them here when they appear.
  • If you are driving, check the Bromsgrove roadworks page before you set off, because the A38 works and motorway night closures change week to week.
  • Alvechurch post team and ticket news on the club website.
