Bromsgrove Christmas bin collections: only Fridays move

Bromsgrove District Council has not yet published its 2026 Christmas bin dates. What it has published is the rule it uses every year, and the rule makes this Christmas simple for most of the district: if your bin day is not a bank holiday, nothing changes.

The quick answer

• Only collections that fall on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day move. Every other round runs as normal.
• In 2026 that should mean Friday households only. Christmas Day and New Year’s Day are both Fridays; Boxing Day is a Saturday, when there are no rounds.
• Last year’s dates were out by early December. Expect the 2026 schedule in late November or the first week of December; this page will carry it.

The council’s rule

The council’s waste FAQ puts it in one line: “we aim to cause as little disruption as possible by moving only the collections that fall on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.” New Year’s Day is treated the same way in practice, as both of the last two schedules show.

Bromsgrove has no Monday rounds at all, so the extra bank holiday on Monday 28 December changes nothing. Collections run Tuesday to Friday, from 7am.

What happened in the last two years

The council moved three bin days each year, and never used the same replacement pattern twice:

Two patterns hold across both years. A bin due on Christmas Day was collected early, on the Monday of Christmas week. A bin due on New Year’s Day was collected late, on the Saturday after. The Boxing Day round went either way.

What 2026 probably looks like

In 2026 Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December and New Year’s Day on Friday 1 January 2027. Boxing Day is Saturday 26 December, and the council does not run Saturday rounds.

So on the council’s own rule, the only households affected should be those with a Friday bin day, and only twice. That is our reading of the rule against the 2026 calendar, not a published schedule. Which days the council picks for the two Friday rounds is the part nobody knows yet; last year’s pattern suggests an earlier day in Christmas week and a Saturday after New Year, but the council has changed its choice every year.

If you are not on a Friday round, put your bin out as normal on every day over Christmas.

Put it out by 7am, especially on a changed day

Both schedules carried the same warning. On revised days crews are more likely to change routes, so they may arrive earlier or later than usual. The 2025 leaflet said: “Please always put your bin out before 7am on collection days, but particularly during revised days”.

Garden waste and extra rubbish

The festive schedule applies to the grey, green and brown bins alike: the leaflet lists bin days, not bin types. There is no separate food waste collection in Bromsgrove yet. The council says funding for it “has not been received as expected” and it will give start dates once arrangements are confirmed (food waste collections).

The tip over Christmas

Bromsgrove Household Recycling Centre is at Quantry Lane, Romsley, DY9 9UU. On winter hours it opens 8am to 4pm every day from 26 October 2026 to 28 March 2027, and it is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays need a booking, so the Mondays either side of the break (28 December and 4 January) are booking-only.

One change since the summer: Worcestershire County Council’s accepted materials table for the site now reads “Fridges and Freezers: No”.

Real Christmas trees

Primrose Hospice’s Treecycle collects real trees for a donation. Its page gives the dates as Saturday 9 to Monday 11 January 2027, with trees out by 11pm on Friday 8 January, lights and decorations removed. Booking has not opened yet. In January 2026 it covered B60, B61 and B45 among other areas.
