Hanbury Hall dresses for a 1970s and 80s Christmas from 28 November to 3 January, 10am to 4pm, no booking. Adults £18, members free; closed 24 and 25 December.

Hanbury Hall’s Christmas this year is “It’s Christmaaas!”: the National Trust is dressing the house for a 1970s and 1980s Christmas party, open daily from Saturday 28 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027, 10am to 4pm. There is no booking, and it is included in normal admission, so National Trust members get in free.

  • Booking: none. The Trust says “just turn up”
  • Cost: normal admission. Adults £18, children 5 to 17 £9, family £45, without Gift Aid. Members free

What is on

The Trust describes the rooms as “a riot of colour, twinkling lights, shiny baubles and tinsel galore”, with 1970s and 80s music playing through the Hall. Visitors can pick up a glass of Babycham, and the Trust’s own write-up promises “the Slade hits will be dropping”.

It is a change from the period Christmases most country houses do, and it is aimed at people who remember those Christmases as much as at children.

Step-free access is on the ground floor only. The Trust offers a virtual video tour of the upstairs rooms for anyone who cannot use the stairs.

A Christmas Carol, Friday 20 November

Before the house is dressed, Behind the Door Productions performs A Christmas Carol as a one-man, candlelit show in the Great Hall on Friday 20 November, 7pm to 8.30pm.

  • £18 per adult, and booking is essential, on 0344 249 1895
  • The Trust lists it as not suitable for children
  • The Courtyard Kitchen opens for refreshments from 6pm to 7pm
  • Bring a torch: the path from the car park up to the Hall is dark

Voices Unlimited Choir, Sunday 6 December

About 35 singers from Voices Unlimited perform 1970s and 80s Christmas songs from the staircase of the Main Hall on Sunday 6 December, at 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm, 20 minutes each.

The performances are free and need no booking, but normal admission to the property applies. Places are first come, first served, seating may be limited, and the upstairs rooms close during each set while the choir is on the stairs.

Opening days to watch

The Trust’s event page says plainly that “the whole property will be closed on 24 and 25 December”. The same page’s own date list still shows the Hall open 10am to 4pm on both days. Go by the written notice, not the calendar, and phone 01527 821214 if you are planning a Christmas Eve visit.

The display finishes on Sunday 3 January 2027.

Getting there and parking

Hanbury Hall is outside Bromsgrove district, in the countryside between Bromsgrove and Droitwich. The Trust’s directions are from M5 junction 5, following the A38 towards Droitwich, then 4 miles along the B4090. There is a car park with Blue Badge spaces and coach parking. Droitwich Spa is the nearest station, 4 miles away, and the Trust points bus users to the Worcestershire on Demand service, which does not run on Sundays or bank holidays.

Dogs on short leads are allowed in most of the formal gardens, parkland, courtyard and Stables Café, but only assistance dogs inside the Hall.

If you are staying in town instead, our pages on parking in Bromsgrove and Bromsgrove roadworks and travel cover the town end of the journey.
